DAS42 Helps Zayo Group Modernize Their Data Stack

Zayo Group is a telecommunications company that uses Snowflake to manage and enrich massive amounts of user and subscriber data. The team brought DAS42 on to help modernize their data use and solve critical business problems.

In this video, VP of Data Engineering and Architecture at Zayo Cindy Charles shares how DAS42 identified a number of related root cause events that created incidents across their network. This led to a 15% incident reduction across the company.

Learn how Zayo plans to work with DAS42 and Snowflake in the future for more advanced analytic capabilities – including Cortex AI, Document AI and Snowpark.

Cindy Charles: My name is Cindy Charles and I am the Vice President of Data Engineering and Architecture at Zayo Group. And that means I’m leading a team to help expand and modernize our data capabilities.

At Zayo Group, we are a communications infrastructure company. So our mission is, “we connect what’s next”. So what that means is with over 16 million fiber miles and numerous network connectivity solutions. We have to be really proactive in monitoring our network to make sure that our customers get the service they need.

Like most companies, we have data all over the place. It’s in different sources, and we use Snowflake to bring that data together in one place and integrate it and enrich it so that we can use it for reporting and analytics.

DAS42 had a pre-existing relationship with QoS networks when Zayo acquired QoS networks. And during the migration, we learned that DAS42 really had the engineering and data architecture expertise to help us with our enterprise solution, and they quickly demonstrated a lot of value in that migration.

Jeff Springer: My name is Jeff Springer. I’m a Principal Consultant and Solutions Architect for DAS42. I work really closely with our clients to make sure that we understand their vision, business needs, requirements, and then architect solutions for that.

Cindy Charles: There are numerous problems that we’re helping to address. There are thousands of alerts that go off on a daily basis, but there’s really only a few root cause events behind them. So what we do is we have built a model on Snowflake to enrich that data and really distill all of those alerts down to a really finite set of events that people can take action on.

Jeff Springer: Oftentimes those alerts are related in some way, shape, or fashion. What we’re able to do is bring that alert data into Snowflake and then enrich it with other data that we should know about these devices and compress those alerts down to just the incidents that the team really should be focused on and have to go out and address. So it reduced their incidents by about 15%.

Cindy Charles: We’re going to leverage Snowflake and DAS42 for advanced analytic capabilities, things like Cortex AI, Document AI, Snowpark. And we’re going to continue to leverage DAS42 because they’re one of the few data consultancies that holds Snowflake Advanced Data Science certifications.

Jeff Springer: We’re here to be a trusted partner and make sure that their vision and their future visions can be realized.

Cindy Charles: Thanks to Snowflake and DAS42, we can ingest and integrate data much more rapidly than we’ve done in our past. And we keep the solutions really simple and that makes us more efficient in the long run and much more cost-effective as well.
